“I got shamed a lot for Willow,” she said. “But Jaden was—that was hardcore. I think as Jaden got older, and he did the Louis Vuitton and he was wearing a skirt. And then he isn’t what people consider your typical Black man, which is…what is that supposed to mean?”

Of course, Jada is referring to Jaden’s much-talked-about 2016 campaign, Louis Vuitton, in which he posed alongside three other female models being sold as women. Despite breaking the fashion line of embracing genderless clothing, many fans did not accept the bold move, and Jada even admitted after the 2018 Red Table Talk that Will was even “uncomfortable” with the advert.

“Even in the community, we create stereotypes around us, and that is something we desperately need as a community to learn how to break free,” Jada said in the video.

Over the years, Smith has faced a lot of criticism about his upbringing – especially from black fans. Jaden, who wants to be released at 15, Will’s 2013 admission that he and his wife were “serving no sentence” for their children, and Willow and Jaden’s 2014 New York Times interview that Billboard called “hilarious” is some examples of moments that become the material of gossip. But if there is one thing Will and Jada taught at RTT this year, they have always been open and unorthodox with their families.

“Jaden and Willow have always been different,” Jada said at the 2018 talk show. Was quite open to receiving it. ”

But, as brand strategist Lexi Montgomery told last year, regardless of what other people think, the Smith family is ahead of their time.

Willow shaved his head and Jaden put on a dress before people openly endorsed self-expression as we see in the media today, he said. “Your previous actions have become trendsetting and are admirable because of the changing cultural climate and their acceptance. In other words: What was once strange is now considered cool.”
